What is Dental Insurance?

Dental insurance is designed to pay a portion of the costs associated with dental care. Generally dental offices have a fee schedule, or a list of prices for the dental services or procedures they offer.

Typical Types of Dental Insurance

  1. Indemnity Dental Insurance Plan: This plan offers flexibility, allowing you to choose your dentist, even if they're not in a network. The insurance company typically pays your dentist a percentage of the services based on your policy. Be sure to review co-payments, waiting periods, deductibles, annual limits, and how coverage changes over time.
  2. Dental Health Managed Organization (DHMO): Dentists in this plan agree to specific fees and offer reduced costs for services to policyholders. DHMO plans often have short or no waiting periods and no annual maximum limits, making them great for major dental work early in the policy. Some even include free preventative treatments, but there may be limitations on procedures like fillings, crowns, implants, and dentures.
  3. Participating Provider Network (PPO): Similar to a DHMO within its network, a PPO allows you to visit out-of-network providers as well. Any cost difference is your responsibility unless specified otherwise in your policy. Some plans have annual maximum benefits, meaning once you reach the limit, additional treatments are your responsibility. The annual maximum resets on a schedule based on your plan.

What is Vision Insurance?

Vision insurance covers services provided by eye care professionals like ophthalmologists and optometrists. A typical vision plan includes annual eye exams and may offer partial or full coverage for eyeglasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses, with or without copays, depending on the chosen plan.

At the end of the day, maintaining good eye health is vital for overall well-being. We can assist you in securing affordable vision coverage, which includes an annual routine eye exam with a low copayment. You'll also enjoy coverage for contact lenses and stylish eyeglass lenses and frames, including designer brands.
